Kuura, Tuisku, and their mother have moved to a new home. Everything feels a bit strange at first: an island in the middle of a constantly moving sea, a chilly children’s room in the creaky attic, and the children in the new yard. On stormy evenings, the old stove warms the children’s room. In the glow of the dying fire, the children wrap themselves in blankets and tell ghost stories. One evening, mother has to stay late for work at the village shop. The children are home alone.
Then, from the attic, comes a sound: TAP TAP TAP. Who is tapping in the attic?
Written and illustrated by Marika Maijala, *The Ghost Pony* is a story about two siblings in the midst of change. Life in a new home and neighborhood is both fun and a little bit scary. The world around them has also become unpredictable. After black and muddy winters, a sudden frost arrives, turning the pond into a skating rink and sprinkling diamonds over the snowdrifts. Everyone has their own pace for adjusting to change. One may need more time than the other. With encouragement and shared play, even the shyest can find the courage to step through new doors.
