"MURDERER!" I shout at Dad.
He looks surprised. Then he says he felt bad about killing the snake.
"Then why did you do it?!" I say and run away.
Fiia and her family are at their cottage. A viper lives near the veranda. Little brother Huuko is only one year old and toddles around carelessly. What should they do? Dad tries to catch the snake in a bucket but doesn't succeed. Fiia sees Dad kill the viper and cannot forgive him.
The picture book tells of a moment when a child first sees their father do wrong and how he shrinks in their eyes. It also tells of snakes and people, the relationship with nature across generations, and how difficult it can be for a parent to apologize to their child.
About the book
Sonck and Lucander have together created an exciting and warm book about processing emotions - both within the child and in family relationships. The picture book has an everyday realism with an existential dimension. The text and images are in perfect balance and perfectly depict a summer archipelago idyll. - Hufvudstadsbladet
