Four illustrators nominated for the ALMA Award – Etana Editions congratulates!

Kati Närhi, Jenny Lucander, Linda Bondestam and Sanna Pelliccioni have been nominated for the 2025 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award. ALMA is the world's largest prize for children's and young adult literature, worth 5 million kronor (approx. €430,000). The award is given annually to an author or entity that promotes reading and children's right to quality stories in the spirit of Astrid Lindgren.

Etana Editions has had the pleasure and honor of working with these four illustrators. Their works have enriched the field of graphic literature, brought out diverse voices, and offered readers visual experiences that will stay in their memories.

Candidates in brief:

  • Kati Närhi is known for her distinctive illustration style and strong characters that appeal to young people.
  • Jenny Lucander is a Nordic Council award-winning illustrator whose works deal with emotions, identity and connection to others.
  • Linda Bondestam is an August Award-winning illustrator and author whose works combine humor, poetry, and ecological themes.
  • Sanna Pelliccioni is known for her picture books that promote multiculturalism and equality, as well as for her active advocacy of reading.

There are a total of 265 ALMA nominees from 72 different countries for 2025. The award will be presented in Stockholm on 1 April 2025.

In Finland, the nominees are nominated by IBBY Finland, the Children's Book Institute and the Finnish Library Association. The nomination itself is a significant recognition of artistic work and the promotion of reading.
